Before becoming a social worker, I was a nurse for over 20 years and spent almost 10 years as a licensed massage therapist. Around my 40th birthday I finally realized what I wanted to be when I grew up: a therapist.
I graduated with a master’s degree in Psychology in 2014 but then decided to take it a step further and went back to graduate school for social work. I graduated in 2017 with a Master’s in Social Work from Western New Mexico University with honors.
During my time in school I spent a year of internship with the Domestic Violence Resource Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico working with both adults and teens who have either been a victim or witness of domestic violence. Also, during graduate school, I volunteered with the Rape Crisis Center of Central New Mexico for 5 years as well as volunteering on a suicide hotline. I worked with the Albuquerque Police Department in the Crimes Against Children Unit and the Crisis Intervention Team. When I left the police department, I worked with children who were survivors of physical and sexual trauma.
Most of my work has been with teens up to grandparents who have had significant trauma in their lives. I have been trained in RTM (Reconsolidation of Traumatic Memories) which has significant positive outcomes for those who suffer from PTSD.
